Peaches are part of the stone fruit family, which also include apricots, nectarines, and plums. Keep these helpful tips in mind for the best possible results.

Choosing Stone Fruit:

  • If there’s a little bit of “give” when the fruit is gently squeezed, and it gives off a sweet, flowery smell, they are ripe and should be eaten or refrigerated immediately to prevent over-ripening. Plan to enjoy within a day or two.
  • For best flavor and juiciness, stone fruit should be served at room temperature.
  • If there isn’t much “give” when you give it a gentle squeeze, it can benefit from some additional ripening time on the counter. Do so in a cool place, out of direct sunlight.

How Long Does It Take To Ripen?

  • If it’s warm in your house, it’s best to keep your fruit refrigerated. It doesn’t take much time on a warm day for them to soften up. If you do end up with some spots that aren’t appetizing looking, you can just trim them off and enjoy the rest of the fruit.
