Green Chili Turkey Burgers:

Did you know that May is National Burger Month? To celebrate I'm joining in with some of my blogging friends, to share creative and delicious burgers in the #FantasticalFoodFight.

This fun monthly event is run by Sarah from Fantastical Sharing of Recipes. Everyone makes a recipe according to the theme that Sarah picks each month, then shares them on the same day.

Fantastical Food Fight -

While these burgers are lean thanks to the turkey, they're packed with flavor, which more than makes up for the lack of fat. Green chiles, onion, and cilantro, along with several other ingredients, combine together to equal one delicious burger.

Turkey burgers get a bad rap. They are notorious for being dry because of the lack of fat. But with the addition of those extra ingredients, it adds that moisture back in. - Green Chili Turkey Burgers

My husband and I eat a lot of turkey, since I was diagnosed as being allergic to beef a couple of months ago. (I've been allergic to chicken as well for 6 years) So I've become pretty good at using turkey in place of them both. Burgers, tacos, lasagna, soups... They all taste amazing with turkey and the right seasonings.

This recipe couldn't be easier to make, you just dump everything into a bowl, mix it up, shape into patties and fry. Green Chili Turkey Burgers

Green Chile Turkey Burgers

1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
1 - 4 ounce can diced green chiles, drained
1/2 cup diced red onion
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
Fresh ground black pepper to taste
Corn tortillas or lettuce leaves for "buns" (regular hamburger buns may be substituted)
Queso Fresco, Pico de Gallo, and lettuce for topping the burgers

Place the ground turkey, green chiles, onion, lime juice, cilantro, garlic, cumin, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix the ingredients until well combined.
Divide and shape the mixture into five patties. The mixture will be fairly wet.
Cook the burgers in a greased skillet until they are cooked through, and well browned.
Serve each patty on a corn tortilla, or a regular hamburger bun if gluten isn't an issue, topped with queso fresco, pico da gallo, and lettuce.

April's tips:

Want to spice these burgers up? Try swapping out the queso fresco for pepper jack cheese.

This recipe would make amazing meatballs too!
