Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

A reader recently asked me when I was going to post another DIY Health and Beauty product, and I realized it has been awhile since I posted one. (eight months to be exact) But today the wait is over. I'm sharing my go to product for dry, winter weary lips. Easy and yummy Brown Sugar Lip Scrub.

During the winter months the air becomes dry, which zaps the moisture from our skin, especially the lips. They become dry and chapped, and if left untreated become flaky and peeling, and eventually cracked and sore. You can avoid this nuisance by simply exfoliating your lips once or twice a week. The lip scrubs on the market can be pretty expensive. I recently seen one that cost $16.00! There's no need to break the bank when it comes to your beauty treatments though, you can make your own lip scrub for just pennies.

Transform your lips from dry & chapped, to kissably soft, with Brown Sugar Lip Scrub. {Click to Tweet}

This lip scrub couldn't be easier to make. All it takes are four easy ingredients, which most of us always have in our pantry. Olive oil, honey, vanilla, and brown sugar are blended together, and you have a product that works just as well as the store-bought versions. The sugar does the exfoliating, while the oil and honey hold everything together, and provides moisture and nourishment to your lips. The vanilla is totally optional, but it makes the scrub smell and taste amazing! I don't recommend that you EAT it, but it certainly wouldn't hurt you if you happened to lick your lips a little. :) After use apply your favorite lip balm to lock in that moisture, and your lips will be kissably soft in no time.

This recipe only makes a small amount. I don't recommend making more than what is stated, as the ingredients are natural with no preservatives, so it doesn't have a long shelf life.

Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

2 teaspoons olive oil
1 teaspoon honey
1/8 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon brown sugar

In a small bowl stir together the olive oil, honey, and vanilla until combined.
Add the brown sugar and stir until thoroughly blended.
Spoon into a small container and keep stored in the refrigerator. Use within two weeks

I used an old eye shadow container to store my lip scrub in. If you don't have any laying around, you can buy them online pretty cheap. Click on the picture above, to see the deal I found on them.

To Use
Remove lip scrub from the refrigerator about 10 minutes before use.
Place a generous amount of the scrub on your lips, and gently rub it around with your finger tip for 10 seconds.
Rinse off with warm water, dry, then apply your favorite lip balm.

Notes: *Make sure to apply a moisturizing lip balm after use to lock in moisture.

*Do not use this scrub more than twice a week.

Did you make this recipe? I'd love to hear what you thought of it. Or snap a picture and share it on social media with the hashtag #myhomesteadrecipe. I'd love to share your creation too!

  1. Wow, this looks so easy! I do get dry lips in the winter, and I rely only moderately successfully on chapstick. I'll have to try this! My kids get dry lips too, but I know they'd gobble this up instead of scrubbing with it, so I'd better hide it, LOL!

    1. It works great Jenny. I found the first week I had to use it twice. Now, I only have to use it maybe once a week, and sometimes only once every 2 weeks!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog and leave a comment. I love reading what you thought about the post, if you made one of the recipes, or suggestions on what you would like to see in the future.
