Apples with Creamy Caramel Dip #SecretRecipeClub

Today is a sad reveal for the Secret Recipe Club. Recently one of our members passed away. It was unexpected and sudden, and left all of us in shock. I cant even begin to imagine what his family is going through.

Home Sweet Homestead: Apples with Creamy Caramel Dip

His name was Daniel, and him and his wife Meredith shared some wonderful recipes on their blog The Haggis and The Herring. Daniel loved to cook, and that shines through on their blog.

Daniel's wife Meredith wrote a very touching and heartfelt tribute that she shared on their blog. You can view it and leave your condolences if you would like by going HERE.

So as a special tribute, we are dedicating this reveal to him. We hope in some small way this will let his wife and family know how much we enjoyed having him in the club, and that his love of food and the kindness he showed others in the groups did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

For my tribute pick I chose Daniel's recipe for Apples with Creamy Caramel Dip. I've been wanting to make this recipe for quite awhile, and with apples being at their peak right now I knew it was the perfect time. The only thing I did different to the recipe was add a splash of milk to make it a bit more spreadable. Other then that the recipe is exactly the same. It turned out delicious and I have prepared it twice so far. It will definitely be made several more times as well before apple season is over.

Thank you Daniel for a yummy treat that my family and I really enjoyed. I am so sorry your time on earth was cut short, and my thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Home Sweet Homestead: Apples with Caramel Dip

Apples with Creamy Caramel Dip

1 - 8 oz package cream cheese
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup crushed Skor candy bars (about 4-5 bars)
caramel sauce (for drizzle)
6 Granny Smith apples
lemon juice

Bring cream cheese to room temperature. Add brown sugar and blend well. (If mixture seems to thick, add a small splash of milk to help thin it).
Spread cream cheese mixture into a shallow serving bowl.
Sprinkle mixture with crushed Skor bars, then drizzle with caramel.
Core and slice apples and toss with a little lemon juice to prevent browning.
Arrange apple slices around caramel dip and serve.
