My family loves bread, especially my husband. To him, supper isn't complete if it isn't served with some type of bread or biscuit. So when he smells me baking up a batch of these rolls, he is a happy camper. Although with my family, half of them are usually gone before they can make it to the dinner table. The smell of fresh bread baking always brings them into the kitchen, asking for a sample or two.

I've been making this recipe for over 5 years, and can make it from memory now. I've mentioned the idea of trying a different recipe a few times, but my family always tells me, "Why mess with perfection"? And they are absolutely right. This recipe is versatile too, I even use it to make cinnamon swirl bread, and cinnamon rolls! So if you've been looking for a go to dinner roll recipe that has stood the test of time, and is family approved, your search is over.

Fluffy Dinner Rolls

1/2 cup milk
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup very warm water
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon sea salt
3 - 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon yeast

Preheat oven to 170 degrees F.
Place milk in a microwave safe container. Add butter to the milk and heat in the microwave for 1 1/2 minutes, or until the butter is completely melted.
Put the milk/butter mixture and the warm water into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.
Add the sugar, salt, and 2 cups of the flour. Mix for one minute.
Add the yeast, and the remainder of the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough starts to form a ball and scrapes the sides of the bowl clean. (you may not need to use all of the flour). Switch to a dough hook and mix on medium speed for 5 minutes.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let sit for 5 minutes in a warm place.
Generously butter a 9×13 baking dish, then grease a cutting board with olive oil.
Lay your dough on the cutting board and cut into 12 fairly equal pieces, with a sharp knife that has been greased with a little olive oil.
Gently round each piece into a ball, and place them in the buttered baking dish.
Place rolls in the warm 170 degree F oven, and let them rise for about 20-30 minutes, or until they have almost doubled in size.
Turn the oven temperature up to 350 degrees F, and bake for about 20 - 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Brush rolls with a little melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven and serve.

Cooks Notes: *Some ovens cook hotter than others, so adjust your baking time accordingly.

  7. I don't have a bread maker or a stand mixer. I do have a Kitchen Aid hand-held mixer with the regular metal beaters. Will that work? Or do I absolutely have to have a stand mixer? Thanks!
